The most frequently asked questions from our patients about laser surgery

At the pre-operative examination and during investigations, patients ask us a multitude of questions about laser surgery. Below we have put together a top of the most common ones.

Is laser surgery painful?

No, laser surgery is a quick and painless procedure.

The vast majority of laser surgery treatments in our clinics are PRK and SMILE procedures. While patients may feel a slight pressure in the eye during the procedure, it is not painful. Some discomfort or irritation is common during the 24 hours after treatment, but this is usually relieved with drops. The SMILE PRO surgery offers the highest degree of post-operative comfort as well as the shortest surgery time, of approximately 7 seconds.

Could I go blind from laser eye surgery?

The risk of suffering any loss of vision following laser eye surgery is extremely low.

Technically, laser surgery has an extremely low risk of blindness, lower than the risk associated with wearing monthly contact lenses for a year. Despite the fact that such an event is extremely unlikely, it is important to be aware of all the risks and side effects associated with laser eye surgery.

When can I go back to work after my laser diopter removal surgery?

Most patients who have undergone laser eye surgery can return to work in the first few days after the surgery. With SMILE PRO it is even possible from the second day for many patients, provided they follow the post-operative indications and treatment.

How much does laser eye surgery cost?

Laser surgery has become increasingly accessible in recent years, thanks to advances in technology and expertise. However, the latest techniques come at a higher price. We display all prices on our website for maximum transparency for our patients.

We also offer financing through Banca Transilvania’s Patient Loan, following a partnership we have concluded with them.

Why are laser surgeries so expensive?

The prices we charge are based on the operating and purchase costs of the equipment and the expertise of the team and the doctor. We have always done our best to offer competitive prices, and have taken into account market prices.

How long does the procedure take?

Laser surgery procedures take a few minutes.

Depending on the type of surgery, it can be completed in 5 to 15 minutes. In fact, the laser itself is only active for a few seconds – 7 seconds for Smile Pro! Most of the time will be spent preparing for surgery.

Is surgery recommended in my case?

Almost certainly. A certain type of surgery may be recommended in each case. Your age, diopters and other measurements will tell us what type of surgery is recommended in your case. If laser surgery is not recommended in your case, other surgical methods will be recommended.

How long does it take from appointment to surgery?

Our investigative process involves a large number of measurements to help ensure that the surgery is as safe and effective as possible. In our clinics, investigations are carried out to determine what type of surgery can be performed in each case. These investigations include corneal topography, epithelial mapping with MS 39, endothelial cell counts, OCT, pachymetry, etc.

Investigations are usually carried out during the first examination, and then an appointment for surgery will be made at a later date. Depending on the doctor’s availability and the number of appointments, the surgery may be carried out in a few days or at a later date.

Important note regarding patient consultations and surgery appointments

A patient who cancels a consultation or surgery appointment once, at least one day prior to the scheduled appointment, has the right to a second appointment under the same conditions.
If the patient cancels the second consultation and/or surgery appointment, a new appointment can be made only if the patient accepts to pay for both the consultation and the surgery in advance. This can be done either by payment order or in cash at the clinic reception.
A patient who does not show up for their consultation or surgery, who does not cancel the appointment in due time, or does not answer the clinic’s calls, may request a second appointment only if they pay for the consultation/surgery in advance.
Patients requesting an appointment for retinal surgeries or laser Prk/Femtolasik/Smile Pro must pay 30% of the cost of the surgery in advance. The appointment will be scheduled only after receiving the advance payment. If the patient is unable to attend the scheduled consultation or surgery, and cancels the intervention at least 48 hours beforehand, they will be refunded in full. If the patient does not show up and does not cancel or contact the clinic at least 48 hours in advance, the advance paid is considered to be lost as damages and will no longer be refunded.
