The newest method of glaucoma treatment is laser surgery for glaucoma, available at Dr. Holhoș clinics.
The procedure is called cyclophotocoagulation and is a low-risk procedure designed to lower and help keep intraocular pressure low. This procedure is performed using the Fox 810 laser.
Glaucoma is an ophthalmological disorder caused by increased intraocular pressure with damage to the optic nerve. Glaucoma is considered the second most common cause of blindness worldwide after cataract, but glaucoma is irreversible and can lead to complete loss of vision. Most of the time, patients show no symptoms until the later stages of the disease. The first sign is loss of peripheral or side vision. Therapeutic options include medication, laser or surgical treatment. The choice of the appropriate method should be made according to the patient, the type and stage of the disease. Most of the time, however, medication with drops is the recommended treatment, in the absence of an intervention aimed strictly at helping to lower intraocular pressure.
The procedure is performed under local anesthetic, is painless and does not require hospitalization. It is particularly indicated in the treatment of patients who do not respond to prescribed medication or those who suffer from certain allergies to it.
